****New Feature for Glass****
 
This summer, eBay will be implementing a new functionality called Item Specifics in the Pottery & Glass categories. This feature is designed to help sellers capture details that help buyers find what they're looking for quickly and easily. In the Art category, items listed with Item Specifics experience significantly higher sell-through rates and prices than items without, so you won't want to miss a day of Item Specifics when they launch in Pottery & Glass.
 
Item Specifics Background:
With Item Specifics, the seller provides details in the Sell Your Item form from predetermined lists of key characteristics (e.g., maker, pattern, color). Buyers then use the Product Finder to search with these same characteristics when browsing or searching. To see how the Product Finder works on the site today, please look at the Art category. For example, in the Art category, buyers can search using the Art Product Finder by attributes such as Medium (e.g., Oil or Watercolor,) Subject or Age.
 
Glass Product Finder
Within Glass, there will be two Product Finders - Art Glass and Glassware. Within Glassware, buyers will be able to search by Maker, Pattern, Color, Style or Shape. Within Art Glass, buyers will be able to search by Origin, Maker, Color, Shape and Age. See below for how the Product Finder will be displayed to buyers and the type of information that will be asked of the item in the Sell Your Item Form. Below the image of the Glassware Finder, you will find a detailed list of characteristics that buyers and sellers will be able to select.
 
How will this work?
Glass Example - Jadeite Anchor Hocking Fire-King Butter Dish:
 
The seller would use "Jadeite" as the Dominant Color, "Anchor Hocking" as the Maker, "Fire-King" as the Pattern and "Butter dish" as the Shape when listing the item. If the seller does now know the Style or Style does not apply, then the seller does not have to provide that information.
 
If a buyer enters the Glassware category looking for Jadeite glass, a buyer could select "Jadeite" and look at all Jadeite items, including the seller's item. Another buyer looking for Fire-King glass could select "Anchor Hocking" and "Fire-King", and see all of those listings, including the seller's item.
 
What will I need to do?
You'll want to begin preparing for Item Specifics now to realize the higher sell-through rates and prices that often come with Item Specifics.
 
Start by carefully reading the table below and thinking about how you will use these characteristics for the items you sell. If you list items through the Sell Your Item form or Turbo Lister, you will see the new options as soon as they launch. If you utilize a listing service (e.g., Andale or Auctionworks), you may want to check if your provider offers Item Specific functionality in the Art category, and remind them that this will be important in Pottery & Glass.
